Home Office Confirms Validity of Expired BRPs and BRCs for Travel

The Home Office has officially confirmed that expired Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) can be used to demonstrate travel eligibility to airlines until 31st March 2025. This temporary measure is designed to facilitate the ongoing transition to the new eVisa system, which remains on track and is not being delayed.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Home Office has introduced these temporary provisions for early 2025. Travelers holding expired BRPs or BRCs can continue to use them for proof of their immigration status during this period.

Additionally, the online Right to Work and Right to Rent services remain accessible for verifying immigration rights. Individuals can still generate a share code using an expired BRP or BRC, provided their immigration status is valid. However, the Home Office has not specified when expired BRPs and BRCs will no longer be accepted for generating share codes for these checks.

This update underscores the Home Office’s commitment to easing the shift to eVisas while maintaining accessibility for those navigating the system during this transitional period.
