Barrister (Immigration & Public Law)

Lead advocacy across the First-tier & Upper Tribunal and High Court. Draft, advise, and appear in complex immigration and public law matters.

📍 Peterborough / Hybrid 💷 £55k–£80k+ DOE 🛂 Skilled Worker sponsorship available

About the role

We seek a results-driven Barrister to conduct advocacy in the First-tier/Upper Tribunal, High Court and County Court. You will draft pleadings and grounds, settle skeletons, advise clients and solicitors, and handle contested hearings including bail, error-of-law, urgent removal-stay applications, and JR permission/substantive hearings.

Work closely with our solicitors across multiple offices, mentor juniors, and shape litigation strategy and knowledge development.

Focus areas: Immigration, asylum, human rights & public law; experience in business/family migration appeals is welcomed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advocacy in FTT/UT, High Court & County Court.
  • Draft and settle grounds, pleadings & skeleton arguments.
  • Conduct JR permission/substantive hearings and urgent stays.
  • Advise clients/solicitors; confer on litigation strategy.
  • Mentor junior caseworkers and supervise drafting quality.
  • Maintain precise records, deadlines, and compliance.

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Practising Certificate; rights of audience in relevant courts.
  • Strong knowledge of immigration, asylum, human rights & public law.
  • Excellent written advocacy and oral submissions.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Collaborative, organised, and client-focused.
  • Previous success in complex appeals/JR is highly desirable.
